First of all let me tell you
how the weekend started. Mel & Debbie and Tim and I headed down to Pismo
Beach on Thursday afternoon for the Pismo Beach Classic Car Show that started
that afternoon. We got to the R.V. park and set up camp and by then it was
too late to go into town to pick up our packets, so we took the opportunity to
relax and have a nice barbeque dinner with Rollin & Marlene Silveria from
Merced. As we were finishing up dinner, Debbie spotted Mike and Frances
Botzon who were out for a stroll after dinner. As it turned out they were
there for the show too. We all had a nice visit and said our good nights
and that we would all see each other at the show the next day.
When we got to the registration tent on Friday we just pulled up out front,
parked and went inside. Mel however didn't actually park in a marked
spot, but we figured that since the streets were all closed it really wouldn't
matter... As Tim and I were picking up our packet, Debbie came by and said
they'd be outside because one of the officials had come looking for "whoever was
driving the gold Camaro", thinking they were in trouble for parking in the wrong
spot they quickly said they would move it right away. The man said , "No,
I have a surprise for you, come with me." As it turns out the official who
grabbed them was none other than the owner of the production company that puts on
the show, Les. Les told them about a special class of cars for this show,
the Gold Class, he said that most of the people in the gold class, of which
their were to be only 12, asked him to put their cars in, but he was telling Mel
that his car was to be in this class. Quite an honor as there were over
1200 cars registered. The only catch was that the car, once parked in the
special covered area has to stay there until after the awards ceremony on Sunday,
which left them well, sort of stranded in Pismo...without a car, and with us in
a car that truly is a two-seater and Mike and Francis who also have a 41 Willys
coupe. Enter Les, again...This time he wants
to talk to Mike about his car, and the next thing you know he's in the Gold
Class with Mel! Amazing stuff huh? Yeah we thought so too. So,
now we have 6 people, one Willys and about 6 miles back to the campground...what
to do, rent a car of course. So that's what they did, so, the
transportation problem was solved. When we got there Saturday, here comes
Les again, this time he recruits Mel, Mike and Tim to be judges! They went
to a meeting and pulled the largest group of cars to judge, 99 cars. So,
they took off to "do their job". They were back in a couple of hours and
the rest of the day was spent looking at cars and having a good time in the sun.
Sunday was the day that they judged the cars in the Gold Class. Below are
pictures of the judges looking over every inch of Mel & Mike's cars.

Later in the afternoon they had the
awards ceremony in the big tent. After calling out all of the "regular"
winners, (Tim was one of those), they had all of the Gold Class owners go up on
stage. There turned out to be 19 in all, because Les had picked some cars
out of the show, like Mel's & Mike's.

Tim's award was a cool clock and a Meguiar's gift bag.

The Gold Class members each received a Jacket, a gift box from Meguiar's, and a beautiful bronze sculpture of a horse head. One lucky member got to trade his horse in for a beautiful lead crystal loving cup as he was named the platinum award winner of the show. The platinum winner was a very rare Shelby 350 GT.
